Lost 3.20 The Man Behind the Curtain — Recaps
All right, just two more things from this episode, than its on to 3.21 Greatest Hits next week.
Funny to see what people had to say about Jacob before we had any idea who he was.
1) Fishbiscuit Recap: Take Me to Your Leader
2) J. Powell’s crazy complex recap: The man Behind the Curtain
Excerpt: there are two points from the Book of Judges that are worth noting: The Benjamite warriors fought left-handed, and a Shekinah resided in the Benjamite land. Ben Linus isn’t left-handed (he shot right-handed), but the term is used as a metonym for keeping an opponent off-balance — and we’ve already seen how the Others deal with the Lostaways, constantly keeping them off-balance (“We’re the good guys, Jack”). A Shekinah is basically a dwelling for god. We know that Jacob seems to have god-like powers; according to Ben, Jacob’s the cancer-healer, and even helped Rachel. Jacob’s shack may be a kind of debased Shekinah for a god-like figure — a shackinah. But if so, this is a haunted holy house, a mirror-twin of what it should be. The horror of Jacob is that if he is somehow god-like, this god is imprisoned by a ravenous wolf and needs help.

The Annie situation was really never resolved, I guess that’s why Ben stayed behind in the finale.

Ben at the sonar fence.

“Ben, you are my prisoner and you are mine.”

You know what I think, Ben? I think there is no Jacob. I think your people are idiots if they believe you take orders from someone else. You are the man behind the curtain, the Wizard of Oz. And you’re a liar.

BEN: What did Jacob say to you?
LOCKE: Why did you do this?
BEN: Because you heard him. Now, I need to know what he said.
LOCKE: Help me…
BEN: John, I’m not going to ask you again. What did he say to you?
LOCKE: He said, “Help me.”
BEN: Well, I certainly hope he helps you, John.

Lost 3.20 The Man Behind the Curtain
This was the first episode to air after the announcement of the 2010 end date….
These episodes near the end of Season three just have so much going on in them that they are really tough to recap. The next two episodes after this are really no exception. I just cant break this episode down into one or two images. More to come…
